Are you surprised?
You know how I love to blow my own horn, toot toot! And I'm blowing it now on my Facebook page to point out that the Daily Caller said I was right when I told people to beware of Obama's "death panels"! People attacked me for that, the death panel thing. They attacked me for being silly and paranoid and harboring ridiculous fantasies of an authoritarian dystopia, and also for using my Down's Syndrome kid as political leverage. But you know what? I WAS RIGHT.Not "right" in the sense that we have death panels. Or "right" in the sense that someone is going to be deciding whether or not developmentally disabled babies should receive health care. Or "right" in any meaningful sense, to tell you the truth. But "right" in the sense that Obamacare sucks YOU FEEL ME? WOOO!!! Fist pump! Pointy shaming finger, point point point! Wag wag finger! Point! Fist pump!
You could say that Merritt's column title "Sarah Palin Was Right" is inflammatory, and unsupported by the actual statement he wants to make. But who cares? No one really reads past the title and the first few sentences anyway. I bet you're not reading this right now. I was going to read it, but it got boring and difficult so I quit halfway through.
I'll be honest with you, diary: I don't really understand how saying "all women should receive contraceptive services" is the same as saying "old people and developmentally disabled children should be killed because they aren't productive members of society." But it's Merritt's point to make. And I guess he made it. I don't know. I wasn't really paying attention.
Merritt is sure right about one thing, though: if 98% of Catholics use birth control, then obviously access to birth control isn't an issue in our country! Even for low-income inner city women, and low-income rural women… they're fine, I'm sure. After all, if the Catholics can afford birth control, obviously everyone can! (I think Paul Revere said that on his ride to warn the British that they were coming.)
The real problem is, will Viagra still be covered? Because right now, Viagra is covered by health care services. And I think we can all agree that whether or not low income women can afford condoms and birth control pills, dudes like my buddy Newt Gingrich should still be able to get it up on the public dime! That's the kind of freedom that our founding fathers wanted (for rich white males). Right, Newt? I'm still your buddy, right? Go, Newt!
